INSTALLATION
INSTRUCTIONS
|
DIRECTIONS:
Refer to acoustical tile
manufacturers specific recommendations. Condition
the area to be installed, adhesive and ceiling tile
at 65°F (18°C) or above for 48 hours before,
during and 48 hours after installation. Test painted
surfaces to assure compatibility by adhering 3 or 4
tiles to painted surface. Wait 48 hours. If the paint
softens and/or releases from the substrate or the tile
does not adhere to the paint, the paint must be removed
before beginning installation. We cannot assume responsibility
for failures related to paint releasing from the substrate
or adhesive releasing cleanly from the paint.
- Stir
any liquid on the surface into the adhesive.
- Adhesive
will not properly adhere to tile with dusty backs,
and a failure may occur. To assure a good bond, prime
all tile with this adhesive before daubs of adhesive
are placed on the tile.
- Use
a pointing trowel or putty knife to apply daubs of
adhesive, each about walnut size (approximately 25
grams/weight), about 3" in from the corners of
tile. As shown under Trowels/Coverage, apply
four daubs to 12"x12" tile and six daubs
to 12"x24" tile.
- Place
tile against substrate applying even pressure with
both hands. Press tile into place immediately, with
a vibrating back and forth motion, exerting uniform
pressure on each daub.
- When
tile is in position, daubs should be 2-3/4" to
3" in diameter and 1/8" to 3/16" thick.
Too much or too little adhesive will reduce the initial
strength of the adhesive, and a failure may occur.
- When
installing tongue and groove tile, take special care
to avoid disturbing daubs of adhesive on tile already
installed. Place tile in approximate position, and
slide back and forth slightly with uniform pressure
of the hands to obtain good adhesive contact. When
joints are at same level, slide tile into position.
Do not put tongue in groove first, then push up opposite
side of new tile, as this will release adhesive on
tile already in place.
- Once
the tile is in place, do not pull down or bend it
to place in the next tile. The spring load
will cause the adhesive to release.
